After hard disc wipe and carbonite restore, can't find bookmarks
I had to have my hard drive wiped after catching a virus. I have Carbonite backup. After Carbonite finished downloads, I reinstalled Firefox. The bookmarks bar (History, Bookmarks, etc) is gone. I have gone to Options--Toolbars--Check Bookmarks Toolbar. It is checked. View Bookmarks Toolbar is checked.
How do I get my old bookmarks back?
Chosen solution
copy one of the lxufr718.default\bookmarkbackups files onto your desktop (or another location you can easily reach) & then go to firefox > bookmarks > show all bookmarks > import & backup > restore > choose file... and navigate to the file you've just saved in the step before.

- Recover lost or missing Bookmarks
- Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data
- places.sqlite stores your bookmarks and history.
- The bookmarkbackups folder contains ten backups of your bookmarks. To restore such a backup, see Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer.
hello flynjoyce, firefox stores all your personal data (bookmarks, passwords,...) in your profile folder. this is where the firefox profile folder is normally located: [Finding your profile without opening Firefox]
i don't know how carbonite restore is working - you'd have to check in your available backup if this location got backed up. if so, you then can continue Recover important data from an old profile and copy them into your current profile...
Thanks for your help! I ALMOST (but not quite) have got what I need. Here is my remaining problem.
Following your instructions, the system restored Bookmarks—but the wrong ones. The Bookmarks restored date back to 2010—not just before my problem occurred June 1.
Here, however, is what I found by “messing around”. If I go to OS (C:) and do
Users>Owner>Carbonite Restored OLD Settings>2013-06-02 07-35-31 PM>AppData>Roaming>Mozilla>Firefox>Profiles
And open Profiles, what I find are two files:
j2nbyg8.default.bookmarkbackups (contains bookmarks backups from 2010) lxufr718.default.bookmarkbackups (contains bookmark backups from days immediately preceding my problem)
The computer is apparently going to j2nbyg8.default.bookmarkbackups. Can I delete this file to make it go to the other one? If not, how can I get it to use the data from lxufr718.default.bookmarkbackups?
Thanks for any thoughts you might have.

Perfect! Thanks!
Thanks for the above advice. I spent almost a whole day trying to get my old PC bookmarks onto my new PC via backed up disk but to no avail. I saw your post and had it done in under 5 minutes. In future I will head straight here. GREAT JOB.
