Going to some websites causes FF to hag for long periods. Like minutes. It locks up all tabs and all instances of FF. One site I have problems with is webmd.com. When I use Chrome it loads instantly. With FF (latest version 23.0.1) it partially loads and then hangs. It seemed to lock when it got to http://d.audienceiq.com/... per the site loading info in the lower left corner of FF

Only options are to ctl-alt-del and terminate or WAIT.

It appears to be files associated with ads.

I did the ctl-shift-k and here is what the log said (notice the time stamp period): - [10:55:58.257] GET http://d.audienceiq.com/r/dd/id/L21rdC80NC9jaWQvMjUzMDgxOTQvdC8yL2NhdC8yNTMwODIwNg [HTTP/1.1 200 OK 105ms] - -- [10:58:07.139] The character encoding of the plain text document was not declared. The document will render with garbled text in some browser configurations if the document contains characters from outside the US-ASCII range. The character encoding of the file needs to be declared in the transfer protocol or file needs to use a byte order mark as an encoding signature. @ http://d.audienceiq.com/r/dd/id/L21rdC80NC9jaWQvMjUzMDgxOTQvdC8yL2NhdC8yNTMwODIwNg

The frustrating thing is that it locks up ALL tabs and ALL instances of FF forcing you to wait.

Thoughts?

Hello,

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.

You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).

Then perform these steps:

  • Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
  • In the Firefox options window click the Advanced tab, then select "General".
  • In the settings list, you should find the Use hardware acceleration when available checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
  • Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.

Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:

Turning off Hardware acceleration did not solve the problem. But the first link started me on the right direction.

I restarted in safe mode and it worked fine. So one-by-one I disabled addons, restarted and reloaded webmd.com until the offending addon was found ... it was the last one I turned off :-(

To verify I turned the offending addon back on and the problem returned. Turned it off with a couple other addons turned on and everything works fine again. Also works with hardware acceleration turned on.

The offending addon is: Transtorrent. The irony is that it claims TransTorrent empowers your browser to download public files at maximum speed

Questions: - Does Transtorrent come std with FF or did Jr. download the addon? - How do we notify Transtorrent of this issue?

Thanks for helping, Nick

I don't think Transtorrent comes standard with Firefox. I tried to go to the Transtorrent website and it isn't able to take me there. Firefox says it can't find that server. It must have either shut down or else it doesn't exist. Website: http://www.transtorrent.com/ I found this website off of the Chrome App Store: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/transtorrent/ijpijomooghblpejdpedgndicbnagoak/details?hl=en
