When filtering email while they are being read, I get messages:

The messages could not be filtered to folder '<various names>' because writing to folder failed. Verify that you have enough disk space, and that you have write privileges to the file system, then try again.

Yet after the emails are read I can run email filters on the inbox(es) or selected messages, and they run fine. Messages are moved as they should be.

This behavior appears to be consistent.

Running Windows 7 Home Premium with updates current.

You missed the important software. Anti virus. It is almost certainly the cause of this issue.

The following will confirm that, or disprove it. But please report back with your results.

  • Restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled". If Thunderbird works like normal, there is an Add-on or Theme interfering with normal operations. You will need to re-enable add-ons one at a time until you locate the offender.
  • Restart the operating system in safe mode with Networking. This loads only the very basics needed to start your computer while enabling an Internet connection. Click on your operating system for instructions on how to start in safe mode: Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, OSX

I have the same issue with Windows 8.1.

Interestingly, I have a dozen or so filters -- and they all work except one, where I get this message all the time.
