I have Firefox v44, running on Win 7 (64 bit). I think my Firefox version is 32 bit.

If I just start Firefox as normal, and then try to load a webpage, it just keeps loading, regardless of webpage. If I instead start Firefow in PRivate mode, it works well. I can also create a new (non-private) window after this and it works. It does not work if I start in normal mode and then open a private session.

I have tried (without success);

  • Reseting Firefox to factory settings
  • Removed all versions of Java and reinstalled the latest version which now works well
  • Internet Explorer works well

Please advice!

hi, can you please see if uninstalling firefox 44 first and then installing the 64bit version from https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/ does solve this issue for you?

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) to see if that has effect.

Many thank's for the speedy advice. Actually it seems that Firefox is working at the moment. I don't know what I've done, but I will hold off a day or two before reinstalling...

I forgot to mention that I also restarted without running autostart (using msconfig) before posting. I got a crash on first start of Firefox and on the second it just kept loading as before.

As the issue remained, I have just uninstalled and installed the 64-bit version. So far it works like a charm! Thank you!
