All of a sudden there was nothing in the "trash" file. I found them in the "sent" file. Now whenever I delete an e-mail it goes into the "sent" file. How do I restore it so that when I delete it goes to the "trash" file?

Go to your Account Settings, select 'server settings' for the account concerned and check that the correct option is selected under the heading 'when I delete a message ... ' (about half way down the window). There are several possible causes for the behaviour you describe but this is the obvious one to check first.

I went to "server settings" , but did not see any option stating "when I delete message........". Where else could I go?

The directions you have been given would be fine for an IMAP-connected account, so I guess yours uses POP.

And oddly enough, I can't find an equivalent setting for a POP-connected account.

Do you have other accounts? Does the Trash folder here in the affected account have the same symbol/icon as the Trash folders in other accounts?

I do have a POP-connected account. Don't have any other account.

Still have not solved my problem. Deleted messages still keep going to "sent" file instead of "trash".
