I’m sorry but am afraid no-one is searching for one. Probably similar to other forums, this forum is intended to help out users that are willing to follow advices, and their systems should at least meet some requirements, or chances are nobody can be of help or will even return to your question to help out if they did find a solution sooner or later.

Your OS is one of the (...) that was ever made, broken due to a few hundreds of missing fixes in a service pack provided that you are unwilling to install, and probably does not even meet other requirements that your other system does seem to meet (SP2, Platform Update or more?), but you are not able to tell us what they are, let alone trying to find out for yourself. That makes it very hard for us to help, and if anyone did find "another plugin solution" that the entire browser industry is trying to get rid of and will soon fail anyway, you might be running into a new issue a few weeks after. I’m actually surprised you can still browse the web. ;)

Perhaps I do understand your challenge - one particular Windows version served me for 10+ years and long after its support had ended, but I had to give up one day when finding out some software (including but not limited to Firefox) was no longer updated or working properly and bugs in particular software, the OS itself and drivers were no longer being fixed, so I ran from on issue into another. The service packs and later patches offered extended the OS’es lifespan to the max and so it does for Vista, but ignoring them makes the word "stubborn" pop up.

Again, if there is an issue, fix it by the root, so install the required updates even though doing so can be time consuming and get you to run into other issues in the update process that even recent Windows versions suffer. Remember they should not necessarily "slow things down even more" eventually but speed them up instead. If you choose not to, this is your challenge, so I wish you good luck.

My only advice left and worth mentioning may be to check if all preferences related to media.* are set as required (which should happen by default), or launch Firefox with a new profile - it may have been mangled up a bit anyway due to switching Firefox versions. For the media.* preferences, perhaps some YouTube videos or other pages can help - try searching for H264 and Vista.

yah the other pc had the service pack 2 but i never had to add codecs for made videos works and seems in this pc istead i have to do service pack 2 and install 2 more upgrades for the codecs...btw is not becaise of a "challenge" that i want keep service pack 1 but is because the service pack 1 himself slowd down my pc istead make it better and this i why i stopped to trust upgrades , no upgrades Of the few that I did has improved my pc only getting worse and slow now i'm afraid that service pack 2 give the shot of grace on this pc , i prefered plugin - extension solutions because like flash alwas worked fine with no risk of upgrades which will create problems like i said i use pc also for other things and I can not afford a slow down...so if a plugin exist o a extension that work similar to flash and enable all format videos to be seen please let me know...thank you and sorry for bad english

It seems like the same issue on Windows XP which also doesn't provide newer codecs. The solution may be the same as well. You can try to force install Primetime plugin in your browser. But you need to update your browser to at least FF47. If you're going to update it to FF50 or newer there will be no "media.gmp-eme-adobe.forceSupported" entry in the about:config. Create it manually. Worked for me on XP.

A boolean preference is one that has only true and false as possible values. If the preference already is listed in about:config, you can double-click it to switch its value between true and false. If the preference does not exist, you need to create it. Do you recall the name of the preference that needs to be set? When I look at the post on the other forum there are a lot of them.

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste eme- and pause while the list is filtered

• media.gmp-eme-adobe.enabled => true
• media.gmp-eme-adobe.forceSupported => true
• media.gmp-eme-adobe.visible => true
• media.gmp-eme-adobe.version (string, 17; required for manual install now that automatic install is no longer an option)

To see this one, change the text in the search box to gmp. and pause while the list is filtered:

• media.gmp.decoder.enabled => true

If a boolean preference is missing, this is how you add it:

(3) Select and copy the name of the new preference from the above list

(4) right-click a blank area of the about:config page and choose New > Boolean

(5) Paste the name of the preference in the popup and click OK, then select true in the next popup and click OK. The new preference should appear on the list.

Repeat as needed.

Hi Lanselot, the Adobe plugin solution thread says it was tested in Firefox 45+ and doesn't mention Firefox 43. If you switch the

media.gmp-eme-adobe.enabled

from false to true, does that fix it?

If not, please study the other preferences listed in the article as applicable to Firefox 45-48 and experiment with them. If you can find an article for older Firefox, great, otherwise, you're in the best position to find out what works.

I have a very similar issue here, been working many hours on this, still no solution, I have a website, with a video on it, and the video renders ok when I am in the website's editor, but when I just serve up the page, my Firefox (ver. 47.0.2), just reports "No video with supported format and MIME type found". I have a current Flash plugin installed, and OpenH264 Codec plugin by Cisco as well. This Firefox will render Youtube videos, Bloomberg videos - basically most videos, but I note that when I use the site the Lanselot suggested:

it shows the H264 codec as *not* working. I have also tried the suggestion to modify the parms in about:config to set media.gmp-eme-adobe.enabled to true, and then add the other boolean adobe values to force support for Flash, but I still get this "No video with supported format and MIME type found" when I try to view the video.

Note: This is not a Windows issue. I have a very stable Firefox 31.1.0 (ESR) running on a CentOS 6.6 Linux box, and it also behaves the same way (will show other videos, but not my .m4v from my site). Also Note: My uploaded test video will successfully render on iPad, on Android and even on Blackberry tablets, as well as on the Chrome browser, no problem at all.

Lanselot, I will spend some time on this, and try to figure out what is wrong, because if I can't resolve the issue, I will have to convert all our browsers to Chrome.

If someone who knows the internals of Firefox could briefly explain what is happening when video rendering fails with the "No video with supported format and MIME type found" message, that would really help.

There is a curious characteristic: When I load the page, the video appears, and the video-box controls are visible, and large activation arrow in the centre of the video-box displays, and it looks like all is ok. But then, the controls disappear, the large activation arrow disappears, and the error message displays. Its like everything is ready to render, but a failure is occuring in the code for the plug-in container. Any info appreciated. IF and when I can resolve, I will post the fix here.

OK, GOT IT WORKING!

My solution may not be optimal, but I got my video to render.

Specifically, I downloaded the Primetime Content Decryption Module, and installed it as per instructions (so it showed up as a activate FIrefox plugin), and then make the tweaks to the about:config parameters. This got the video working in HTML5, but not in Flash. The detailed instructions to do this (for WinXP) are here:

Why is the internal OpenH264 codec set to Never Activate? Try enabling it by setting it to Always Activate. It cannot be set to Ask to Activate, but it’s safe and most likely required. While at it, do the same for the Content Decryption module. You could even uninstall Flash at this point, even if it was just for testing, and only reinstall it for websites that require it. Speaking of, you also disabled Flash, so how do you expect H264 playback to work?

Firefox does not prevent H264 playback for me when disabling both add-ons, so you might need to add the Platform Update Supplement for Windows Vista as suggested above in the Fix video and audio problems on Firefox for Windows N editions article. The other system may already have that installed, so you could check for it being present.

Also, I would really try to get a Windows 7 update for your OS. Vista is old, slow, insecure and prone to new issues. You may be one of the few still using it. ;) There is no point running it as long as possible, since you can expect more websites to break. And that’s regardless of Flash - most people uninstall it anyway simply because it is no longer needed. And of course, Firefox 43 is not as safe as current versions. The same goes for uninstalled Service Packs - if there is an issue installing it, chances are you have more issues in the OS, and you will experience more of them.

On Windows Vista you should be able to use the Widevine plugin (supports Vista and later). Since XP isn't supported by this plugin then the workaround for the XP platform is to use the OpenH264 plugin that is normally used by WebRTC.
