Hi guys, I have a problem with firefox. The option to undo close tab (whether its the shortcut, or the right click on tabs menu) doesn't work correctly for me, it always open a randomly closed page from a while ago and not the recently closed one.

I thought it was a problem with how I close the tabs (ie. if i click on the x or ctrl+w, or the mouse wheel) but it doesn't make a difference, the undo closed tab still doesn't work right.

I tried looking for a solution on here and online but found nothing concrete. So, I appreciate any help.

Does Session Restore otherwise work properly ?

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.jsonlz4 file in the Firefox profile folder that stores session data.

  • delete sessionstore.jsonlz4 and sessionstore.js

When sessionstore.jsonlz4 is deleted you lose pinned tabs and open tabs and you will have to recreate them, so if necessary make a note or bookmark them. sessionstore.jsonlz4 is only present in the Firefox profile folder when Firefox is closed.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

Hi seeingolive, you might also look at the menu and see whether you can spot a pattern of certain kinds of tabs not being added to it when they're closed. Either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > Library > History > Recently Closed Tabs (current window only)
  • "Library" toolbar button > History > Recently Closed Tabs (current window only)
  • (menu bar) History > Recently Closed Tabs (current window only)

@cor-el: session restore works properly, before I tried your solution I tried @jscher2000's.

@jscher2000, somehow opening the recently closed tabs menu makes everything function as it should be?

Thank you for your help everyone. :)

Perhaps I should start a new thread, but this seems related.

macOS Mojave, Firefox 78.0.1 -- if I close a tab with a keyboard shortcut (command-W) and wish I had not, my muscle memory immediately does an undo (shift-command-Z) but doesn't work. I just tested and if I close a tab with command-W, the Edit menu shows undo as grayed out. No problem finding the closed tab in History --> Recently Closed Tabs....

@ Bill Costa

Note that the command to reopen a closed tab is "Command+Shift+T" in the en-US version and I think this is the same in other locales in case "Command+Shift+Z" is not a typo.

Hello, I think I have a similar problem. Some weeks back I've seen that when I close a tab, and do right click over any tab, and then click Undo close tab, it reopens 3 or 5 (including the last one) tabs. Before, I remember that always it used to open only the last one. I do not know when it started doing this, but sometimes when I close many tabs in a row, and I only want to reopen last one, opens all the bunch.
