Is it possible to recover an old Firefox profile to a different OS?

The old profile was on a Windows 8 installation. I have a complete copy of the original C-drive. I want to recover the profile to my current Linux OS. Or, if not possible, to a Windows 10 OS. I'm mainly looking for my saved passwords.

(I have the same question about Chromium browser btw.)

For the logins you would have to copy logins.json and key4.db to the profile on the current device.

You can copy certain files with Firefox closed to the current profile folder to transfer or recover personal data. Note that best is to avoid copying a full profile folder, especially the old profile was a Windows profile.

You can use the button on the "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page (Root directory).
