on my account page under security - password lists an 18 character password. my password was actually only 8 characters, so i changed it and is now 9 characters but the only password listed is still the 18 character.

Some websites use JavaScript to modify the password field before submitting the form. You can inspect and edit the password in the Password Manager (about:logins page). You can create a Login block exception for this origin (protocol and hostname) to prevent Firefox modifying/updating the stored password.

thanks dropa, my firefox account page from the menu that drops down when i click on D at top right. then click on manage account, sign in and the page is firefox account - D. settings with subheadings for profile, security, connected services, data collection and use, email communication. so the new 9 character password works fine-after a few times entering the password myself autofill took over. i checked for my firefox password in saved passwords but there are no entries for firefox. the only place is on my account page, there is a change box to the right of the hidden password but no option to view. since autofill signs me in ok, maybe this does not matter?
