I have two separate Firefox accounts, one for personal use and one for business use. The accounts solely exist for the purpose of changing devices and syncing bookmarks, as I upgraded my personal computer some time ago, and recently upgraded my work laptop. When I went to log into the work account after changing laptops, I was forced to use the app to log in. I logged out of my personal account to log into my work account, but it appears that my bookmarks for both accounts are synced to both accounts. Is there a way to check if the accounts are linked, and if so, is there a way to unlink the accounts, so I can keep the bookmarks separate?

This is why you don't use Firefox sync for home and business computer this is what happens both will reset to the same links and bookmarks. If you want them separate you need to have different login and password for each account to avoid this in the future. Sync will always sync just like what is says so unless you keep separate login/password sync will sync both computers as one.

Firefox keeps backups in the bookmarkbackups folder in the Firefox profile folder, so you should be able to recover from this mixing up due to connecting a device to multiple Sync account.

The name of automatically created JSON bookmarks backups in the bookmarkbackups folder includes a total item count (folders and separators included) and an hash value to prevent saving the same backup more than once. You also see this count in the Library Restore menu drop-down list.

  • bookmarks-YYYY-MM-DD_<item count>_<hash>.jsonlz4.
