When using Firefox 8.0.1 or 9.0b4, clicking on a video item in Google News or Excite News starts Parallels, then XP starts, and then Firefox opens in XP on Parallels. This did not happen when I was using 5.0.1 Must be a preferences setting but I don't know which one is the culprit.

Hey rnbsfe,

I'll respond here instead of through PM in case someone else has this issue. This is a new one on me, since I don't use parallels. I would suggest that you look at the tools->options->applications menu. See if there is something in there that is telling Firefox to open a specific file type in Parallels.

You can find more information in the KB article Applications panel - Set how Firefox handles different types of files.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for your reply. There is no tools->options->applications pull down in 9.0b4. In Preferences there is the Application page with many entries; it is not clear which is the culprit. I removed the mimeTypes.rdf files as suggested on the KB article Options window - Applications Panel. Problem persisted.

Any other ideas?

I'm going to try a restart in safe mode and see what happens.

Started in safe mode. iMac said it could not find Airport card (!). Since I couldn't get on internet I restarted the computer... and now Firefox seems to be no longer opening Parallels and XP when I click on a video in Google News or Excite News.

Let's see what happens after a day or two.
