I recently upgraded to TB31 from 17, Running XPpro-SP3. When I type the first letter in the TO: field, TB freezes for a few minutes. I can sometimes reboot to clear this for a couple of emails, but then it starts freezing again. This is so annoying and time-consuming, I have to use Gmail for my outgoing email. Help!

I don't have an answer for you, only a couple of things to try.

1. Restart With add-ons disabled from the helkp menu. I don't expect much, but it might work.

2. Restart your computer in safe mode. Instructions for Windows XP

Please report back the results.

Matt, Thanks for your response to this question (both postings).

I tried: Restart with add-ons disabled--no joy XP safe mode, TB add-ons disabled--no joy. Downloded TB24.7 from archives--*Poof* problem solved. -

I have been using Mozilla since about 1996. The TB31 update has caused me to spend the most time troubleshooting since then. There were several other 'glitches" that I had chased down, such as default printer and other issues earlier this week.
I'm not a programmer (last programming I did was Fortan IV on an IBM 360), but I'm an experienced computer user. I also run TB31 on my windows 8.1 ultrabook without problems.
My gut feeling on this particular issue is the system requirements. The problems occurred on a desktop, XPpro-SP3, 1.2gb single-core processor, 2Gb RAM. Although this is within the published system requirements, I think there may be some issues there.
