Since yesterday evening, I have not been able to log in to my yahoo e-mail accounts. I've tried a few different e-mail accounts. I've tried this from three different user accounts on my workstation. I've tried this from Fedora-25 and windows-7. My OSs are current as of last Wednesday (windows-7) or Thursday (Fedora-25). Thunderbird is 52.2.1 on my Fedora system. The Yahoo accounts are all imap.

When I get the login failure message box, hitting the "Cancel" button and clicking the 'x' in the box's upper right corner don't work; I keep getting the login failure box. I have to exit Thunderbird altogether to stop getting message boxes.

What do I need to do to log in to my yahoo mail? ...delete some file? ...delete some cache? ...change some setting?

Thank-you for your help. Bill.

From the dozens of Yahoo posts here Yahoo seems to have a problem or they changed something.

Thank-you Airmail.

If you're correct about yahoo, that explains not being able to log in. But that should not get Thunderbird stuck in an infinite login-failure loop that requires shutting down Thunderbird to break out of it.

I reported two symptoms. It seems one is a problem for yahoo to fix (I hope they're not dropping Thunderbird!). It seems to me that the other symptom is likely due to a bug in Thunderbird. That should be investigated.

Bill.

Thank-you, Airmail.

I'm glad that a bugzilla has been submitted regarding what happened yesterday and Monday. Hopefully the fix prevents future infinite loops in the login-failure code. I also hope the programmers figure out what really caused the login failures, and can fix the code to prevent future occurrences of us not being able to log in. And hopefully yahoo (verizon) doesn't again do anything to cause us problems.
