Opening Attachments and Frozen Tabs

Dear all,

I have the following two issues:

1) Tabs. I close tabs and then close Thunderbird. When I reopen Thunderbird the tabs which I had closed reappear. In fact if I open other tabs and then close Thunderbird and subsequently reopen Thunderbird these newly open tabs do not reappear. It seems to me that the tabs in Thunderbird have been frozen in place so that if I close any tabs the reappear next time I open Thunderbird and if I open a tab it does not reappear when I open Thunderbird next time.

What can I do so that the tabs which I open are not frozen there every time? I want the Calendar to be there all the time but also to be able to determine which tabs should remain closed and which should remain in place next time I open Thunderbird.

2) Attachments. In the past when there were attachments I needed to click on the paper clip, while highlighting the text "Show the attachment pane" and this would expand so that I could see all the attachments. Nowadays when I click it this opens the first attachment and the others remain inaccessible as I can no longer see them or at best only see them fleetingly.

What can I do to restore the ability to click and see all the attachments and then select which I open by double-clicking on it?

Thank you for your replies.

Kind regards, George Nielsen

Chosen solution

Try this: open the profile folder, close TB, delete session.json and xulstore.json, the file that stores the toolbar and layout settings. Both files are automatically recreated on restart.

For 1), Help/More Troubleshooting Information, Profile Folder, Open Folder, close TB, delete session.json, the file that stores the last open folder and opened tabs.

For 2), post a screenshot of the pane with multiple attachments. Ctrl+Shift+S to start Snip & Sketch.

Thanks for your reply.

As for 2) I solved it by consulting the following site: https://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch001532.htm

As for 1) I click Help - Troubleshoot mode

I get a dialogue box stating Restart in Troubleshoot Mode, I click on button Restart

I get the dialogue box Thunderbird Troubleshoot Mode, I get a choice to check boxes for Disable all add-ons and/or Reset toolbars and controls, and three buttons with Make Changes and Restart, Continue in Troubleshoot Mode and Exit.

If I click Continue in Troubleshoot Mode then Thunderbird restarts. If I click Exit then Thunderbird shuts down.

I should have written Help/More Troubleshooting Information, Profile Folder, Open Profile, ....

I managed to find the session.json file and delete it. This did not result in any change.

Even the Calendar tab disappeared. I found it and I hope that it will remain there also next time I open Thunderbird.

Thank you for your help.
