I normally have no more tabs than will fit on the toolbar. I tried your "tab groups" and it unnecessarily complicates my browsing. How do I go back to the individual tabs and undo the creation of tab groups?

To get rid of any tab groups you created, go to the "Tab Groups" screen and close all the groups except one, or drag all your tabs into one group.

To remove the "Tab Groups" button from your toolbar, follow the instructions on this page: Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars

mbrubeck's solution perhaps needs a little elaboration, since it was still not immediately obvious to me how to remove the "Tab Groups" button, once it had been created.

Follow mbrubeck's reference to Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars. The trick is that the Tab Groups button can be dragged off the Tab strip "back into the box", in the same way any item is added to or removed from the Navigation toolbar.

I got rid of the tab icon, but I didn't get rid of the Tab Groups all together, which is what I want to do. This doesn't work for me!! And I noticed that there's no longer a tab next to the last open tab that I can just click on to open a new tab and go to a site in my bookmarks toolbar!!!

I feel the same way. All was going excellent with this new Mozilla Firefox, until, during my exploration and thinking there is always an 'Undo', I hit the Group Tabs option; only to discover I don't like it, nor can I change it back. BUT/AND, most important of all, is that it seemed to stop another great feature (don't know the name of it) in which down in my TaskBar(?) I can no longer have a preview of all my opened sites, but only one and the one I last was viewing. I would really love to have the option of hovering my mouse above the Mozilla icon next to my start menu and seeing ALL pages I have opened again. HOW can I bring this feature back, please?

Here's what worked for me on Mac OS.

  • Open one of the pages in the tabs group you wish to remove
  • Open "preferences" in the Firefox drop down list
  • Under "general" click " restore default" where you set your home page (that removes the tab group)
  • Then go to the page you want as your home page and click "use current page".

Getting rid of these tabs groups has been a real nightmare for me because I have young kittens that jump on the keyboard and hit various combination of keys that reactivate these tab groups. I don't think there's anyway to disable the function. I called the Mozilla 800# and they offered to disable it for me at a price of $200-$300. :-)

Why Mozilla can't post something that tells you how to clear these tab groups or delete pages out of them is beyond me. I've just found them to be a nuisance that has taken hours of my time trying to remove. I've stopped using Thunderbird because of the tabs were so cumbersome.

Reset the browser.panorama.* prefs on the about:config page to remove the "Move to Group" entry in the right-click context menu of the Tab bar.

  • browser.panorama.experienced_first_run
  • browser.panorama.session_restore_enabled_once

Delete the sessionstore.js file to get rid of the Tab Groups data stored in that file.
