I have started getting a message when I boot Firefox that is a security certificate error message, referencing xml.freecause.com:443 I cannot go to any website; as soon as I close the window, it pops back up. The issue does not happen win IE on the same system, so apparently, something has infected Firefox. (I thought is was immune from this kind of thing!) How do I fix this??

I am currently having this problem on my desktop computer, and am unable to access the internet because of it. However, I am typing this on my netbook, using Firefox with no problem. I suspect the difference is that I have several airline mileage toolbars installed on my desktop computer, and those rely on software from freecause.com. Alternatively, the difference could be that my desktop has the very latest version of Firefox, whereas my netbook is not quite as up to date.

This thread has some suggested solutions for disabling the toolbars that seem to be the culprit: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20110924180810AA8nlvF

I am having the same problem. If I go in and change my computer date, i can get on firefox. If I change it back, the error pops up and I get nowhere. Signed on to IE and had no problem. I am not computer-literate enough to know what to do. PLEASE! Someone help!!!

I just had the same problem and this is what fixed it. Change your clock back to an earlier time.

Go - tools - add ons

For me, the problem was the Gamers Unite toolbar. I disabled it and reset my clock to the correct date. I restared firefox and it worked fine after that.

Play around with the different add ons you have on your computer.

The emails about toolbars made me stop and think. I had installed one from INBOXDOLLARS.COM I uninstalled the toolbar, and my problems went away. Thanks to everyone!

I also had this same problem and it turned to be my Dallas Cowboys theme search bar and sports updates. I just went into firefox add ons and removed Dallas Cowboys theme and it directly said why did I want to remove xml.freecause! answered why and it was removed.

I fixed it by reloading FireFox ... it was completely unusable before that - couldn't even start it in safe mode.
