I presume you have accessed the webmail account and made sure Pop forwarding has been selected. Not certain you have to select the option - some server you have to select others it is auto selected - but check anyway.
The error message means that either the password / username is wrong or they are correct but not for the server settings you are trying to use.
File > New > Existing Mail account or Menu icon > New Messages > Existing mail account
- Enter name
- Enter full email address
- Enter password - same one you use to access webmail account
- select option to remember password
- Click on 'Continue' button
Thunderbird will try to locate configuration settings from a database. Make sure 'POP has been selected If cannot locate configuration click on 'Manual Config' button
check you have POP and the following
Depending upon whether you have 'rediffmail' or 'rediffmail pro'
Incoming Mail Server (POP3) Server Name: pop.rediffmail.com (OR pop.rediffmailpro.com) Port: 110
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) Outgoing Server (SMTP): smtp.rediffmail.com (OR smtp.rediffmailpro.com) Port 25
Remember 'User Name' = full email address Most servers you need to have the full email address, so test this first.
click on 'Retest' to try after modifying anything. Click on 'Done' to create a mail account.

Sorry Toad -Hall
I still facing the issue
The email still not connecting
I suggested that you try setting Username' to be your full email address. I notice it is set as the shorter version - only the bit before the @. Does it work if you change the username = full email address?
If it fails using the full email address in the Username then I suggest you contact rediff / check your webmail account. why? Need to confirm that Rediff does allow unpaid accounts for set up in third party tools such as email client Thunderbird.
I did mention that you needed to log on to the webmail and check POP forwarding is enabled. Did you check this out?
I also found this in a gmail help forum:
Mail account has to be POP enabled - Rediffmail (the free/default) version does not support POP communication. One needs to buy the POP access from rediffmail shopping to upgrade the default/standard rediffmail account for POP communication. The menu to buy this is available under 'POP3 Access' under Settings/My Settings in the new/classic interface of your rediffmail account.
