FF-warning after typing in 'about:config' (?)
Just curious, and wanted to see what 'about:config' is all about.
Then I get this warning, that immediately scared me off (see screenshot)
As it is in Dutch, I'll translate:
This may be in breach of your guarantee conditions !
Altering these elaborate prefences may damage the stability, safety and performance of this application. Only proceed if you know what you're doing.
Show this warning the next time.
I'll be careful, I promise.
a) No; I don't know what I'm doing .........
b) I get intimidated very easily and this sure scares me ........
Can anybody reassure me ?
Cheers,
Happy112

about:config has or has had various warnings.
You can certainly break Firefox by changing values in about:config so it is something to be careful with. Anything important and regularly changed may be altered some other way.
If you want to look at about:config and are experimenting changing it then it may be wise to first of all back up the file prefs.js because that is where the prefs are saved - in fact it only stores the none default values. That enables you to return to the previous Firefox settings state instead of sometimes having to return to a default settings state.
Alternatively create a new additional Firefox profile and play around using that. That may be safer, but also has its own dangers. If using multiple profiles it is prudent
- To play arround only when using the new additional profile
- To use only the suggested locations for creation of profiles
- Never to rename or delete profiles. (Mistakes may be dangerous to your data including bookmarks and logins)
- Also note there is a new about:profiles

I marked Vlammetje's answer as helpful, as you seemed to be trying to do that.

Hi again Happy112 (Re /questions/1133551 )
You sent a message today asking again about indenting. it may have been better asking in the contributors forum. But it is still relevant to Forum questions so I will reply by PM and by posting a comment. As you ae aware by now in both the forum and PMs you may use the quoting if you wish to expose and examine markup. See also markup cheat sheet
Use the numbering instead of lettering
- Short heading for numbered list
Second line after a break tag that is longer and will form a longer paragraph. - Note you may not indent within such a list item
- You may nest further points. They indent further as bullets
- or as numbers
- a double leading hash started this line
If you want hanging indents etc you will need to go all preformatted
A.) This is preformatted Short heading With manual letterring Third line indented Fourth not so much (line breaks respected but leading space needed No need for a break tag.. B.) Note you may format as you like within such preformatted area. C.) In messages this will be within a blue area with right angle corners. But in the fora it will be momospaced text D.) PMs and the Fora differ slightly in use of br tags, the forum retains the new line you type after an Enter key is pressed but the PM runs on and needs a br tag if you specifically wish to start a new line. E) preformatting sometimes overfows untidily in PMs but in the forum has a scrollbar, if it overflows with plain text

I didn't dare to post an HTML-related question:
When I first took up HTML I was told that this forum was not meant for HTML-related questions and I was referred to Mozilla Developer Network.
The first question I had whilst trying to wrap my brain around it all; oh, MDN told me I could post all of my questions 'right here' which took me to : oh yes: this forum ......

Over the past few days (and most of the night) I've spent hours and hours on that site ........

'Hanging indents'  ..... ???? What are those ?

It's official: I am beyond stupid it just won't register ........
Maybe a few good nights sleep might 'reset' my brain cells.
Thank you so much for everything you've done for me.
Cheers,

Before getting too involved with the quirks and details of this forum's markup behaviour it is worth taking a step back and remembering it will likely all change soon.
Detailed discussion of HTML is outside the scope of this forum, so if you need lessons in how to use HTML you would be better tying elsewhere.
- Interactive tutorials you may be found on the Web
Example http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_pre.asp There are of course countless other sites,. - MDN is more about looking things up yourself rather than asking questions. Some of that stuff will be highly technical but it does include guides and tutorials https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTML
- Webmaker something Mozilla started off as a learning innovation https://webmaker.org/ but it is probably not very active and has lost some of its initial features. (Guess where its support forum is !)
- You may be interested in Webmaker What is Thimble?
Hanging indents not really highly relevant I just mentioned it because you seem to be trying to make pretty posts with fancy formatting. Want to find out what they are try this link http://lmgtfy.com/?q=hanging+indents It may appeal to your sense of humour, and (and may need FlashPlayer enabled)
You seem to be doing pretty well so far for someone who has only bought her first computer a few months ago.

Huge relief !!!

I'm taking lessons from w3schools and three others and they all teach you different things (pretty confusing !)

I started following the MDN-lessons a while ago (as soon as some people here on the forum told me that that's where I should go )

I will definately check it out (laughing already .....)
Edit (a few minutes later): That 'Google-thing' was funny !
Hanging indents: 'glad to find out what they are (won't be using them unless I absolutely have to -- makes the pages look 'cluttered')
You seem to be doing pretty well so far for someone who has only bought her first computer a few months ago.
Aww, ...... that is so sweet; thank you !!!

Hi Happy112, and thanks for your interesting and entertaining posts!
Going back to your original about:config question, this is the Mozilla article on the subject - Configuration Editor for Firefox.
For more info about the workings of Firefox, you might like to have a look at http://www.tweakguides.com/Firefox_1.html (The info relating to about:config is on page 10). Not all the about:config possibilities are there, but the list is more up-to-date than the Mozillazine one - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_:_FAQs_:_About:config_Entries
Enjoy!

Sounds like some pretty serious stuff to me !

I just went over those 'interesting and entertaining posts' you mentioned and came across quite a few typos .........
Edited those posts immediately !
I have not cheked it out recently. Is the Unicorn still there & if so have you found it on your Firefox ? Clue it's an easter egg.

If you're talking about what I think you're talking about:
It was a funny 'thing' Google did (just a split second); no easter egg (hey: it's August   ... ) and there was no Unicorn ........
Cheers,
Dopey.
Edited after I made a stupid remark about the Unicorn (thought it was a zodiac sign) ........

'Saw this message in my dream; woke up and said:
"But of course ! 'it's an easter egg' must be an expression and mean: something hidden ..... "
So I jumped out of bed; looked it up in the dictionary, and there it was:
Easter egg : <tt> easter egg</tt> (in Dutch) -- nothing about it being an expression ........
But I just know it is, so, I'm gonna look for that Unicorn now   ......
(edited a typo)

I've seen just about all of them right now; the next screenshot I wanted to add was too big ......
Pretty weird (and even creepy) stuff .......

Nope. Not once.
I'm not sure what it is you're trying to do here, but count me out.
That's rich. What are you trying to do?? You tell me I'm indenting, while I am not. Are you just trolling?

Reread that post: (8/5/16, 12:35 AM):
Indeed I said: You don't see me indent anywhere .......????
as in: duh ........ cause my next line was:
That's what I've been trying to tell you: I don't know how ..... !!!
And if you insist that you didn't indent in any of your posts:
maybe you should look up the meaning of the word   indent.
You started talking about indenting. Up to that point I hadn't intented a single line of my posts. You even remarked, out of the blue, how I didn't use any 'encoding'.
I'm done with you. You're being weird. Google HTML-tags and go from there. And while you're at it; look up netiquette and avoiding ambiguity. For example sarcasm without any emoticons. Bye.
