2 parts. First, for about a month I have been getting the following error message when preparing to shut down: "Firefox has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." So I simply shut down and the window closed. Second, For about 3 days, when accessing my e-mail, I have not been asked to log in (user name and password). I have been able to get directly to my e-mail simply by clicking "mail".

Thank you for your help.

problem 1: see if the problem goes away if you try safe mode:

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)

  • You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.

To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.

problem 2: it could be that your mail provider offers a checkbox to "stay logged in" (say, for a week, month ...) and that this checkbox got inadvertently ticked 3 days ago. If you are concerned, the best place to ask for help is at your mail provider's.

A hint: make it easier on yourself and on the support by posting questions one problem at a time in the future. If for instance, we licked your problem 1, but problem 2 still persists, the question remains opened - even if it is already half closed. Thank you in advance!

you can also likely influence the login-behaviour of the website yourself by changing the firefox cookie preferences for it. cookies are used to store the login-status for many online services. you can set cookies from your mail-provider to be deleted at the end of every session - then you will be logged out after you close the browser.

for details see: Block websites from storing cookies and site data in Firefox (you won't want to block cookies though, but only allow them for session!)
