If your device has a hardware menu button, then Firefox will use that instead of the 3 dots. Does that make any sense on your device?

You are correct about about:config working completely differently. This could be for performance reasons, or the tiny screen.

In the system specs posted under "more system details" under the "system details" tag to the right of my post you can see that I'm using a tablet, but I should have included this information in my original post. To be specific, in addition to the specs of my original post can be added the following:

Hardware: Galaxy note 10.1 (2014 edition)

This has a single button in the bottom center of the device if held in the landscape orientation, with two flat icons that you can also select on either side of this button.

Pressing this center button does NOT bring up the main menu in firefox, and instead just minimizes or closes the application depending on your definition of the action under Android's mode of operation.

So the question of the original post still stands in terms of accessing the main menu. To reiterate and reformat the original question to be more clear perhaps it should be rewritten as follows:

How can the "main menu" in firefox be accessed on a Galaxy note 10.1 (2014) edition tablet?

I believe the icon to the left of the main button that looks a bit like an inverted mail tray is the menu button.

An inverted mail tray? :) To me it looks like the top portion of a piece of paper with some lines written on it, but thats just me. :P

Thanks for the clarification. I think this solves the problem and once again shows the crippled nature of the tablet version of Firefox. The main menu is missing a huge amount of features and configuration options that were previously available in the desktop version. In fact it has been so degraded of options that when opening the main menu its not even recognizable as a main menu. Or perhaps more correctly stated as not as easily recognizable as such.

In any case, thank you for you're response and confirmation of what I wasn't willing to believe at first. I'm not sure why I was surprised that most Apps are lacking there desktop companions feature set in tablet based environments but *shrug* live and learn I guess. Thanks again for the response. :)

It has not worked for me, as I have posted similar questions and pix. When I use the menu button on the left, I still cannot get the full menu items we need, tools, options, preferences.

I agree, this has NOT helped.

I've tried every button, possible tap location, ^v<> swipes, the Menu button > More > all the various tweaks, tapping on the Tab icon in the upper right, middle and left, and at the end of the address bar, ???.

I've come to the realization that there is no...o...o...o triple dots, or any other way to find the normal menu bar needed in Firefox.

Frankly, I've stayed with Firefox from it's single digit versions because of a couple of add-ons I love. But those aren't available any more on the mobile I have (HTC EVO 4G Android 2.3.5). Maybe someone can recommend a decent working quick and simple browser to switch to.

Hi drkenrich, your HTC EVO 4G (WiMax) has 4 hardware buttons, including a menu button along the lower front of the device. From Firefox's perspective that is the menu button and there is no need to draw the "3 dot" button within the app.

I don't have a Gingerbread device handy, but having More on the menu sounds familiar from earlier days. Your menu and the 3-dot menu show the same things, so the real estate is conserved. The entire selection of features on the menu is very limited compared with Firefox for desktop. What features are you are looking for that are missing?

I checked the images and now see that they are what show up when I hit my Menu button. Wow, are they limited!

What I was expecting was the menu bar as on my desktop. After further examination of each desktop menu bar pull down menu, I realize that most of what I use there are specifics like Print, Save, Tools (Tweaks), History and Bookmarks. Most of the actual choices are not doable on a cell phone.

Thanks for the understanding AND link to other browsers. I need to check them out and decide what I really want my phone to do.
