Firefox is constantly crashing on a daily basis. It does not matter what tab is open or what application is open. I have disabled all extensions and plugins with no luck. I have also reset Firefox to see if that would eliminate the problem. No luck.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox and still have the same problem. Firefox is running the latest version.

The PC is a Toshiba laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium. There is 4GB RAM It is a 300GB hard drive with 282GB free;

Windows has all updates on it.

Firefox will not start up unlessthe laptop is restarted.

Attached is the latest crash report. Please help

Sorry to hear about the crashes. If you are getting the Mozilla Crash Reporter form, your Firefox may have logged some data that would help track down the cause of the problem. You can submit that data to Mozilla and share it with forum volunteers to see whether it points to the solution. Please check the support article "Firefox crashes - asking for support" for steps to get those crash report IDs from the about:crashes page, and then post some of the recent ones here.

When Firefox won't restart, do you get an error message or just nothing happens? Does it help to check for and terminate any "hung" or "frozen" firefox.exe process in the Windows 7 Task Manager? You can call that up using Ctrl+Shift+Esc. Then if there is a visible Firefox window, it should appear on the Applications tab. If there are no visible Firefox windows, check the Processes tab.

The crash report ID is:

Thank you for that report ID. This is an odd crash, it occurs nearly instantly and Firefox doesn't provide much data.

If you have any other recent report IDs, it may be good to consider what those show before acting on the following.

The crash signature is linked to some old bugs related to NVIDIA software, but I can't tell whether that is relevant to your system because your Question Detail > More System Details indicates Intel graphics. Could be a coincidence.

The only thing that jumps out at me from the list of running modules is FlashPlayerPlugin_20_0_0_286.exe which usually indicates Flash was starting up in protected mode. The protected mode feature of the Flash player plugin has security benefits, but seems to have compatibility issues on some systems. You can disable it using the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Plugins. On the right side, find "Shockwave Flash" and click the More link. Then uncheck the box for "Enable Adobe Flash protected mode" and try that for a day to see whether it helps.

If you can't run Firefox long enough to get to the Add-ons page, another way to disable protected mode is to create or edit an Adobe settings file. The following pages/posts provide different approaches for that if it turns out to be necessary (if Flash EXE processes continue to show up in the Windows Task Manager, Processes tab, even after changing the Firefox preference):

I updated the Flash plugin and also took it out of protected mode. Here are the other crash reports you requested.

Hi Rufust7, if you click those IDs on the about:crashes page, do they submit successfully? Usually they will change to new codes starting with "bp" once they are available for sharing.
