Are there settings or add-ons for Firefox that will block corrupted websites from installing viruses or other harmful things onto my computer?

Recently, I picked up a virus, specifically a program which claimed to be "Windows 7 Security 12" from a corrupted website while using the Firefox browser. Is there any way I can change Firefox's settings so that such an issue will not happen again, or so I will not pick up this virus, which poses as a fake security system, again? I'd like to know if there is a Firefox setting to block such corrupted sites from installing things onto my computer.

I looked up "Windows 7 Security 12", and found that it is indeed a virus. I have now picked it up through Firefox at least once, and possibly twice.

We used Norton Security scans and Norton Deep Eraser to try and remove the files. This appears to have worked.

There is no simple, one-click fix to secure a browser from viruses and malware. The best method is to always use a good quality virus scanner and malware protection program.
