Browser reported as "not recognized/not supported" on FF 9.01. What should config entries be under "useragent" filter? Think mine are screwed up!
I had been having some problems with certain sites saying that my browser was "unsupported" or "not recognized" or "needs to be upgraded". Al;so I was getting strange behavior when I used my iGoogle homepage or Google search features.
I UPGRADED to FF 9.01, but the problem continued and I noted that some add-ons were listed as incompatible when they should have been
I found an old article about the "useragent" entries in the config of FF. What I have/had did not match the article. I tried RESET on them but I am NOT sure if I did it right!
What should my entries be with FF 9.01 under the config "useragent" filoter and how do correct any error?

That pref shouldn't be there at all on the about:config page. If you reset the general.useragent.override pref then it will get an empty string value and will be removed from the about:config page on the next start. Then your user agent will be the default.

I'm not seeing any general.useragent.* prefs in your system details list, so if you had any before and you've reset them then you seem to have succeeded to do that.
Do you still have that problem?
There are still two "useragent: entries there:
general.useragent.compatMode.firefox;false general.useragent.locale;en-US
Is this correct? At least SOME of the odd behavior has gone away, but Yahoo.com is still acting wierd but that may be just them.

Yes, those two are OK and should have a default value. The general.useragent.locale pref specifies which locale version you are using (en-US). If you have other language packs installed then that pref is used to select other locales (language packs). The other pref can force Firefox in the user agent if you use a (special) build that doesn't have it. All current Firefox builds have Firefox in the user agent, so this is also OK.
The following "useragent" setting has now appeared in my config. It wasn't there before and now the left tab is BACK and other bizarre behavior is being seen, even in SAFE mode (see other recent post):
"general.useragent.override;undefined GoogleToolbarBB"
What do I do? There are two other entries under this filter, but I'm pretty sure they are correct and were there before. This one is NEW!

You need to reset the general.useragent.override pref to the default via the right-click context menu.
That pref shouldn't be there, especially not with the value that you posted.

Exactly HOW should the General Useragent Override" read? When I click it opens a window asking for manual input. Your help is appreciated. If I can't to the bottom of this, I'm going to have to dump FF and use IE. FF is getting unusable.

Cor-el,
OK, I did a "reset" from the contextual menu and it went to nlank/no entry for the value. On restart, there are now ONLY two useragent entries:
general.useragent.compatMode.firefox;true general.useragent.locale;en-US
Now the left side tab is again GONE! Good! Now I have to see if the other behaviors are gone - server not found, weird web pages, failed logons, etc. with Yahoo, etc. I'll give it a while and get back with you. Thanks very much.
