Why is there no way to change email password in Thunderbird any more? No point having Thunderbird as an email application if I can't actually access my emails.

For security reasons I have had to update my email password with my service provider. Previously there used to be a pop up box on Thunderbird prompting me to enter my password if Thunderbird couldn't access my emails with the current password. That option has gone. I have tried via all the tools and settings mentioned elsewhere, but have so far failed to find anywhere to enter my email password.

That option hasn't gone. If you don't get a password prompt you may have a network problem, so that Thunderbird doesn't even get to the point to show you the password prompt. See https://support.mozilla.org/kb/cannot-receive-messages

What exactly have you tried?
