Every few days, my firefox homepage settings and options reset to factory defaults. I normally have about 8 pages that open EVERY time i create a new window and its frustrating to have to manually re-add them to the homepage every few days. Same thing with my toolbars - they reset every few days. my default pdf viewer also changes every few days. Bookmarks are still present - just the

I use the 'options' , 'homepage', 'use current pages' to set these up. I am running the latest version 85.0.1. I have seen other threads on this topic and so far none of those suggestions have helped.

Hmm, those settings are stored in different files in your Firefox profile folder, so it's not just that a single file is failing or being removed:

  • prefs.js: startup/home page(s), toolbar button placement
  • handlers.json: choice between internal PDF viewer vs. system-level default application

What about history or ability to restore a previous session? Is that erased unexpectedly?

Does the data loss appear to be related to system restarts, or do you do a shutdown/restart of Windows more often, without any data loss, or less often, such that data loss occurs between restarts?

I mention Windows restarts because some external utility/privacy software may "clean" your browser data at startup. Programs such as CCleaner and Advanced SystemCare have that behavior (and options to exclude Firefox, I believe).
