When I access any Norton.com page the browser goes to the page then I am immediately get redirected to MRpccleaner.com. I have removed Firefox and reinstalled but the problem persisets after I reinstall Firefox. The problem is not DNS related because this does not happen when I use Chrome or Internet Explorer. Please help because until I get this fixed I have to use Chrome.

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
All these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

I agree with the malware scans, but also, try visiting the Norton site in Firefox's Safe Mode. That's a standard diagnostic tool to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings). If it works normally in Safe Mode, one of your extensions would be a prime candidate for removal.

You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using

Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset)

Any difference?

This is not possible the Norton website just flashes up then the MRPCCleaner site comes up. Not enough time to get the screen shot.

In safe mode the redirect does not happen.

Hi idvnet, it's time to cast a very critical eye on your extensions. You can try to disable or remove them on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.

Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

If there is no Remove button for an extension, this usually means you have to use the Windows 7 Control Panel, Uninstall a Program, to remove it. Click the "Installed on" column heading to find the most recent additions.

When I turned the add-ons back on most had been removed but the redirect was gone. I had about 20 installed and was using around 16. After turning them back on I only had 6 of which I turned on only 2. Anyway the fix worked so I can use Firefox again Thanks.
