Firefox 48.0.2 is Release while 49.0 is on Beta channel though Firefox 49.0 is scheduled for Release next <strike>Tuesday Sept 13 unless it is delayed.</strike> delayed to Sept 20.

If you see a version with a b and a number like say b9 (b9 means ninth beta build as an example) then that was a Beta build. A Release would never update to a build on another channel.

Release < Beta (b#) < Aurora (a2) aka developers edition < Nightly (a1)

Uninstall the Beta version and install the Release version. Your data will carry over.
