Delete messages from all mail folder
I am using Tbird 52.3.0 to access my gmail account on a Windows 7 64bit PC. When I look at the account in Tbird, I see a folder "All Mail".
How can I delete messages from this folder? I have tried deleting them with the delete key and with shift-delete but whilst they disappear from the folder at the time, they are not deleted as they reappear later when I restart Tbird or return to the folder. I have tried dragging the message to the Trash folder and deleting them there and they do seem to disappear from the Trash folder but they come back in the All Mail folder.
There is also an "Important" folder which contains some messages that are also in All Mail. How do these messages get there? How are they determined to be important? I have the same problems as above when trying to delete messages from this folder.
If I delete message from the "inbox" folder, they are removed from the Inbox but appear in the Al Mail folder.
Can someone please help me overcome these problems? Thnks

The best approach is simply unsubscribe from the all mail folder so you can not see it. Right click the account in the folder pane, select subscribe and deselect the all mail folder.
Bottom line is all mail is where Google stores all your mail. Folders a just labels attached to mails in that collection. As far a google is concerned you have no inbox. You have mail in all mail with a label of inbox, or deleted or archived or any of the other pseudo folders you think you have. You should also be aware that Gmail uses the all mail folder as an archive. So it is possible to have mail in there with no labels attached. It is "archived".
Ohh and important and family are folders created based on your settings in gmails web site. just more labels on the same mail in the all mail folder but you can turn them off on the web site.
Thanks Matt, that cleared things up
