A new Toshiba laptop, Win7. (Yes a new PC with only Win7 on it)

Latest version of Firefox v19.0.2 installed two days ago.

(Downloaded via another PC and transferred to Toshiba for installation)

  • Connected Toshiba to internet for its virgin run.
  • Opened Firefox, resulting google had video link.
  • Adobe Flash Player alert, "Unable to etc" requires updates"
  • Clicked on updates link.
  • Twenty minutes later Adobe progress bar still progressing nowhere.
  • Stopped update
  • Clicked on Adobe option to download installation file.
  • AV check (Bitdefender) + malware (Malwarebytes) check of download file -- all OK
  • Installed Adobe from download

Today. First video of day -- official Adobe Crash. Found FFox help "Adobe Flash plugin has crashed - Prevent it from happening again" at http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/adobe-flash-plugin-has-crashed?esab=a&s=adobe+flash&r=0&as=s

Checked currently installed plugins + extensions. Is "Shockwave Flash 11.6.602.180" the same as "Adobe Flash Player" ??

Should I uninstall "Shockwave Flash" before clean-installing "Adobe Flash Player"  ?

(I have had nothing but problems since Jan 2013 with FFox on an Acer laptop. (I had assumed this new Toshiba would leave all those problems behind. I am my wits end!) (That is the subject of other unresolved threads on Firefox forum)

I will be grateful for any help, thank you

Shockwave Flash is the official Flash player plugin.

If you type about:config about:crashes into the address bar and press Enter, then click the crash ID most relevant to your Flash crash, is there any useful narrative information there amidst all the technical data? Some of the volunteers here are good at reading those reports, so if it means nothing to you, feel free to copy and paste the crash ID (just the ID, not the entire report) here for analysis.

Corrected per the below post.

Hi "jscher2000"

You were quick with a response, thank you.

There are a squillion entries in "about:config".

What am I looking for?

Sorry for the typo, I meant about:crashes . Too much screen time.

This should be the about:crashes page.

If you have submitted crash reports then please post the IDs of one or more crash reports that have this format:

  • bp-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx

You can find the IDs of the submitted crash reports on the about:crashes page.

  • You can open the about:crashes page via the location bar, like you open a website.

See:

You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:

  • disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
  • disable protected mode in Flash 11.3 and later
  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

I will work thru your suggestions.

[/I feel swamped with disasters. My ever expanding "Add Bookmark" has been replicated onto my brand new Toshiba. All I imported were HTML bookmarks -- no profiles. Back to my old thread when I get Adobe Flash resolved./]

Have uninstalled Adobe Flash Player v11.xx using Adobe's uninstaller.

Downloaded fresh "Adobe Flash Player v11.xx" and installed.

Problem persists -- no flash player atall. Video links are blank or no response.

Cannot find Adobe Flash Player v10.

ALL these actions as recommended by FFox help.

I have put 13 hours into this problem today. What are FFox and Adobe upto??

Without ANY flash player I have to use IE exclusively.

The first ID is a problem with the Flash plugin.

Did you try the other suggestions?

  • disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
  • disable protected mode in Flash 11.3 and later
  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

Hi "Cor-el"

I don't have "Real Player"

Flash 11.3 is installed but does absolutely nothing, it is dead.

How do I "disable protected mode in Flash 11.3"  ? I cannot find "Adobe Flash 10.xx" do you have any tips ?

How do I "disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin"?

FFox Hardware acceleration is disabled (as a matter of course). It has been a no-go zone since about FFox 18.xx
