When I try to highlight a range of messages, Thunderbird crashes. For example, if I highlight an email, then click Shift, then click the end of the range of emails I want to highlight, Thunderbird used to highlight the entire range. With the update I received today (10/22/2021), though, as soon as I click on the last element of the range, Thunderbird crashes.

Post a crash ID from Help/More Troubleshooting, Crash Reports. An ID is a string starting with bp-...

In the meantime, try running TB in safe/troubleshoot mode (hold Shift when launching TB).

"Post a crash ID from Help/More Troubleshooting, Crash Reports." There are no crash reports recorded. Even though I crashed it several times. But thank you for responding. I am going to follow your other suggestion, of running it in safe/troubleshoot mode in the meantime. I notice that highlighting a range of messages, for example, seems to work in troubleshoot mode. Thank you! Paul

If it doesn't crash in safe/troubleshoot mode, it's usually either an incompatible extension or theme, or a hardware acceleration issue, or a broken layout. If acceleration is enabled in normal mode in Preferences/General/Indexing, disable it, restart TB, and see if it still crashes. If that doesn't help, launch in safe mode, 'Reset toolbars & controls', 'Make changes & restart'.
