Ancestry have told me they do not support Firefox 4. There is an issue with their magnifier when viewing documents. Findmypast DjVu viewer is also difficult.

When the magnifier in Ancestry's document viewer is used (for example to view one small part of a Census image at a larger magnification), it is impossible to remove the cursor from the image without CTRL-ALT-DEL, which releases it instantly.

Findmypast cannot move from one image to the next without crashing.

They have both suggested I use IE7 or 8, or return to Firefox 3.6

Would it be better to return to version 3.6 while major sites become compliant? Should point out that Ancestry doesn't support IE8 yet, either, doesn't seem interested in keeping up. Is there anything Mozilla can do?

As it is just for one site, you can install the portable version of Firefox 3.6 on your hard drive and use that to access Ancestry, and use Firefox 4 for the rest of your browsing.

You can download the portable version from http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable - Firefox 3.6 is listed in the legacy versions section near the bottom of the page. When you run the installer just specify a location on your hard drive.
