why can i not obtain the same zoom levels in googlemaps as i do on chrome

more options

I use both Firefox and google chrome browsers for varying reasons..when i use googlemaps in Firefox it will only let me zoom in to a level of 18 before i get a default message about not being able to zoom in to a deeper level

However.....on the very same search in google chrome it will let me zoom in to a lot closer...level 21 as opposed to 18 in firefox..

Does anybody please have the answer and remedy to this please ??

Thanks in advance

Hello,

Will you be able to reach the same level of zoom as Chrome with the latest version of Firefox (version 33.0.1)? I notice in your user agent that you are using an outdated version and upgrades (in both security and performance) have been made since then.

You may have zoomed the page(s) by accident. Reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems.

  • View > Zoom > Reset (Ctrl/Command+0 (zero))

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

If you have another browser such as Internet Explorer or Opera, could you test it there to make sure it isn't just Chrome that is able to zoom to that level?

Would seem that the problem is unique to firefox....IE is also able to zoom down to same levels as chrome without encountering the zoom default message/screen

If images are missing or there are otherwise problems with images then check that you do not block images from some domains.

  • Tap the Alt key or press F10 to show the Menu Bar

Check the permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"

Check "Tools > Page Info > Media" for blocked images

  • Select the first image link and use the cursor Down key to scroll through the list.
  • If an image in the list is grayed and "Block Images from..." has a checkmark then remove this checkmark to unblock images from this domain.

Make sure that you do not block (third-party) images, the permissions.default.image pref on the about:config page should be 1.

There are extensions like Adblock Plus (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) and security software (firewall, anti-virus) that can block images and other content.

I'm sorry, but where you do see "18" and "21"? When I zoom in on our work building, both Chrome and Firefox show the scale increment as "20 feet".

Oh... I'm using Lite Mode in both browsers, so if this issue is in the "full 3D" version of maps, I'm not able to experience it at the moment. I'll have to try a different system.

in the classic version of googlemaps.....on the white taskbar to the left of the screen are two icons.....click on the chain icon at the side of the printer icon and in the highlighted bar scroll to the very end and it should read 20 or 21 which i presume is the zoom value..

both these values are the same in explorer and chrome but the value is only 17 in firefox ....it cannot be changed manually as it cannot be saved

its highly confusing

Tried all those solutions but nothing my friend

However the plot thickens......i tried zooming in on the same point again in the new version of googlemaps and this time it will not display any satellite imagery but maps seems fine,

Upon reverting back to classic googlemaps the strangest thing has now happened on the very object i am zooming in on i can now zoom down to the correct level but to the left and right of that point is still the default message of satellite imagery being unavailable at that zoom level

I wonder if a complete re install of firefox would be the answer although i have already tried this to no avail...i would imagine somewhere along the line it is saving something in the memory....it needs a complete uninstall if anybody has any thoughts on that idea

I think that's a very good guess, that z=19, or whatever you see, is the zoom level for the link.

I still see the same zoom/scale in Chrome and Firefox on old maps, but I may have customized something relevant (I've been using Firefox for many years and I don't remember every detail of what I've changed...).
