I can't drag tabs onto bookmark bar. I can't drag or rearrange my bookmark. I can't drag anything in Mozilla anymore after updating.

I can still drag tabs and bookmarks around in other browsers like Internet Explorer and Google Chrome, but not Mozilla.

I've tried unchecking Hardware Acceleration, resetting Firefox in Safe-mode, completely removing Firefox and reinstalling it, disable plugin, switching back to default theme, disable/removed extensions and rebooting my computer. However, nothing is working. I need help :( ...

EDIT: Okay, I've updated to Firefox 40.0.3. I still can't drag anything.

I just updated to version 40.0.3 on my Windows 10 vm and it looks like this feature to drag a tab into the Bookmarks menu is working in a new profile. Can you please update and confirm this?

Make sure that toolbars like the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible.

Open the Customize window and set which toolbar items to display.

  • "3-bar" menu button > Customize
  • check that "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
  • if "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the Customize palette into the Customize window to the Bookmarks Toolbar
  • if missing items are in the Customize palette then drag them back from the Customize window on the toolbar
  • if you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the Customize palette then click the Restore Defaults button to restore the default toolbar setup

Since your original post, there was a minor update to Firefox 40.0.3. Did that make any difference? You can prompt Firefox to update by visiting the "About Firefox" dialog, either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > About Firefox
  • (menu bar) Help > About Firefox

Yes, I have my bookmark toolbar visible. But it's not just I can't drag my bookmark toolbar, I can't even drag my tabs in my tab bar. I can't even do the "design my own browser" feature because I literally unable to drag anything in Mozilla. Still doesn't work. I can't do the second part because I can't drag anything at all.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

You can check if there is an update for your graphics display driver and check for hardware acceleration related issues.

It's already disabled from the beginning. I don't think my graphic display driver is the problem, I mean if it was, it would've affected Google Chrome and Internet Explorer as well.

My driver is already up to date.

You mentioned "completely removing Firefox" but I'm not sure exactly how you did that. Maybe a recent update corrupted your program folder, and the update failed to fix it. The usual recommendation for that problem is:

Clean Reinstall

We use this name, but it's not about removing your settings, it's about making sure the program files are clean (no inconsistent, corrupted, or alien code files). As described below, this process does not disturb your existing settings. Do NOT uninstall Firefox, that's not needed.

(A) Download a fresh installer for Firefox 40.0.3 from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ to a convenient location. (Scroll down to your preferred language.)

(B) Exit out of Firefox (if applicable).

(C) Rename the program folder, either:

(64-bit Windows folder names)

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files (x86)\OldFirefox

(32-bit Windows folder names)

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files\OldFirefox

(D) Run the installer you downloaded in (A). It should automatically connect to your existing settings.

Any improvement with the toolbars?

Note: Some plugins may exist only in that OldFirefox folder. If something essential is missing, look in these folders:

  • \OldFirefox\Plugins
  • \OldFirefox\browser\plugins

I removed it completely by using Revo Uninstaller to delete it and its registry. I've also deleted the profile in my app folder, and the folder in the program folders. I've basically cleaned my computer from Mozilla before installing it again.

Anyway, I've tried your method. It still doesn't work.

With windows 10 i had the worst experince in my life and this is not a joke!? you can stard by reading this: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1080601 all these corections to the registry are needed to make your access to the internet much faster else whatever you do you will be slow as Turtle. Then we may try to fix firefox to run in 'OS'

The thing is, the problem started back when I had Window 7. So Window 10 is definitely not the problem. It asked me to update. I've updated, and then I can't drag anything in Mozilla Firefox ever since.

The speed in Mozilla Firefox is fine. It's just that I can't drag anything.

Is easy to read the logs of event viewer and check for errors but the corrections to your registry will increase the speed you working anyway so i suggest to do it and reboot.

John99 told me to use this version

https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/38.2.0esr/

so far i found he was correct is fast and without a problems then you can relax and watch this side for a version of firefox without so many bugs at list this what i'm doing.

To provide more context to that last reply, Mozilla issues both a mainstream release with updated features and an Extended Support Release. That ESR version is intended for corporations, but anyone can use it. It is based on Firefox 38 and will get regular security updates, but will not get the features of Firefox 39+ for at least the next six-seven months when a new ESR series launches.

If you decide to switch, here is how I suggest installing it:

Clean Reinstall

I just can't remember hearing of a case where drag and drop was so broken in Firefox on any OS.

Can you drag and drop in normal web pages? For example: https://bevacqua.github.io/dragula/
