Can't find Gmail icon in "Select Helper Application" Folder
For a while I had apple mail as my default mail app. I want to change it back to Gmail - and for some unknown reason I deleted Gmail from the drop-down menu (I remember doing it - thinking I could easily add it back). But it is gone in application folder. Is there a way to add it back? I just want the gmail app - so when I click an email address on a website my gmail account opens. I did a search in my apps folder, the entire computer and cannot find it. I even went to the app store but it isn't there. Help!

Hi, in Preferences > Applications, you need go to Mailto then select Use other - Applications panel - Set how Firefox handles different types of files
[Further (sllghtly outdated) info] - Change the program used to open email links
If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please take a minute to let us know. Thank you!
Thank you - I went through the links - but the problem is I can't find just the simple Gmail plug-in/add-on ...I would think that is the easiest thing to locate. But it is not in the link they provide..
Here's what I'm doing:
I go to preferences> applications I scroll to mail to - the drop down menu does not show Gmail as an option. It only shows apple mail icon as an option It used to show the Gmail Icon, but (for what reason I do not know) clicked it and clicked Remove. That is the Icon I am trying to get back...when I click on the link - that the link you had sent and click to the add-on options nothing in there is just the Gmail icon - it's a bunch of other Gmail add-ons... does that make sense?
I would think there is some way to restore the simple Gmail option. (and I tried the Gmail(to) option that is some kind of add-on and my computer won't allow me to download it..
You can check some gecko.handlerService.schemes.mailto prefs on the about:config page to see if they still have the default value. These show for me as related to Gmail:
- gecko.handlerService.schemes.mailto.1.*
You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.
You can also check other mailto prefs on the about:config page.
You can rename/remove the mimeTypes.rdf file in the Firefox profile folder to reset all file actions.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.
