cox to yahoo instructions
With the moving of Cox emails to Yahoo would it be feasible for Thunderbird to put an instruction list(with screenshots) of how to get all our TB email accounts from Cox to TB? Do we have to delete all our TB email accounts and re-enter them into TB under the new Yahoo or can we just change the server settings on the existing Cox settings? If just changing server settings what are the settings for the new yahoo? All my accounts are IMAP so if instructions could be made, maybe one for IMAP and one for POP for those who use either. Thank you

I don't think there's much we can do here. It's kinda on COX and Yahoo to better assist their customers.
Thank you for your link..the last suggestion on this link may work but an awful lot of work-especially if you have several cox/now yahoo accounts. I love TB and saw somewhere you just need to change the IMAP and SMPT in TB for cox emails to the new Yahoo settings but it sounds like that may not be as easy as it states. Hopefully I can drag my feet in transferring my Cox accounts to Yahoo and the kinks will be ironed out but I am not holding much hope from either Cox or Yahoo..wish TB had their own secure email. I will keep my eye out on posts on this issue. So stressfull
I filed a couple of bug reports related to this issue
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1884549 for the new account set up and https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1884548 for the fact the user interface makes a change of server and user name unnecessarily hard.
Thank you for your attempts to make this transition easier for us untechnical users. Hopefully just changing one thing in TB will eventually be the result.
posted this in another thread is cox email being re-directed to yahoo with a translator?
as in, john.doe@cox.net ---> something.garbage@yahoo.com ? if one had the translated yahoo address, setting up the email client for pop/smtp@yahoo.com gets easier...
any yahoo tech folks who can chime in on this?
I made the following changes to my (OLD) TB email account settings to try to switch over from Cox to Yahoo, within TB, without success. I think that the "Required Authentication" (two factor authentication) is lacking for this method to work correctly. Just my guess!
Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server to: Server - imap.mail.yahoo.com Port - 993 Required SSL - Yes, Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server to: Server - smtp.mail.yahoo.com Port - 465 or 587 Required Authentication - Yes
Login Information: Your full email address Password - Generated App Password Requires Authentication - YES
The instructions from Yahoo help are wrong. I spent days waiting on hold for Yahoo and never got the correct solution. Here is what worked for me.
Server settings: Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server to: imap.mail.yahoo.com Port - 993 Connection security SSL/TLS Authentication Method: 0Auth2 Do not use password.
Account settings: Outgoing Mail Server - smtp.mail.yahoo.com Port - 465
If you write an email to yourself, it should send you to yahoo.com and you log in with your yahoo password for that account. It then asks you to grant permission to use the Thunderbird client.
Login Information: Your full email address xxxxxxx@cox.net Password Your yahoo password for this account.
Yahoo has a one time password you may need to use but if you use 0Auth2 I don't think you need it.
I got it to work using Pattiwagen's instructions.
However now my Gmail from Thunderbird has problems. If I send from Thunderbird Gmail to my Cox.net address it is in the sent items folder but never arrives. I double checked all the Thunderbird Gmail server settings. I can send myself an email from my gmail account to myself.
Just noticed that my test emails from Thunderbird Gmail to Cox.net are in the Bulk folder. Why
FYI. My wife uses Outlook and is still trying to make it work. Thunderbird allowed us to setup a second domain pointed to the Yahoo servers but Outlook refuses to let her do that. What a mess. Cox could barely manage email services. I do not think anyone though they could actually manage a migration.
test post - please ignore
Hi all:
From what I can tell, both of the following work: 1. Application specific password 2. OAuth2
Full details in my public github issue about this to update our documentation: Modify: Edit KB articles to reflect the fact that Cox is moving to Yahoo mail #36

and yet another test post which can be ignored
I have Email accounts named: NAME@cox.net and NAME@yahoo.com. I've entered all of the settings for yahoo into the settings. The problem I have is when I use either account, it changes the mailbox outgoing name on the other account to the one I just used. For example I send an email from NAME@cox.net to NAME@yahoo.com. Then when I attempt to send an Email from NAME@yahoo.com, I find the outgoing server name on that account has been changed to NAME@Cox.net and I can't send Email until I change it back. The @yahoo account can receive Email, but the @cox account does not.
Is anyone getting replies to posted questions in like the last week? Maybe TB help has issues.
