After reinstalling old version, how do I retrieve old email messages?

Our computer crashed. We purchased a new one and determined after much trial and error that we had to reinstall an older version of thunderbird due to our server's security certificate. So, thankfully we have re-established our email accounts and are receiving our emails now, but none of our old emails are there. How do we retreive them? Thank you.

That would suggest that you had been using POP which means the old messages will be on the broken computer. The usual advice is to rescue its hard disk, mount it in a caddy so it can connect via usb and so connect it to the new computer.

The easiest way to import messages from the old disk would be to use the ImportExportTools addon to copy folders from the old profile into your Local Folders on the new machine.

Thank you for your response, it is very much appreciated. We have rescued the hard disk and pulled some files off already, but I didn't realize emails might be there....I'll give it a try and let you know! Thanks!

Hello again, So I searched for Import export tools in add ons but found nothing. We are running version 45.8.0 if that matters....just wondering best way to find, extract and import those files. Thanks!

attempted to install addon import export tolls but mozilla refused saying that addon had not been verified. I thought this was unusual since the add on was downloaded from mozilla's own website. is there a workaround

That sounds like you tried to install into Firefox.
