TB starts, briefly shows a message about add-ons, then quits.
When I start TB, a message briefly shows that says something about add-ons, then TB quits. The message goes away too fast to read in detail. Afterwards, using Task Manager (in Win10), I see TB remains as a "background process"; forcing it to quit does not help. Restarting TB gives the same problem as at first.
Is there a command line parameter that I could use in a RUN command box that would disable add-ons? Or is there a file in the profile folder that I could edit or delete?

I fixed the problem by making a change in the profile folder. The "Mail" subfolder had a subfolder named for the wrong ISP. When I fixed that, TB now works, has all the old messages, etc. Thanks to all who provided suggestions.

Hold the shift key when starting to enter safe mode.
Thanks. This tip does let me disable add-ons and start in Safe mode. But TB still won't run; it just shows the circling wait symbol for a second or two and then quits. Again, Task Manager shows an instance of TB running as a background process. I have to completely power down the CPU, then restart before I can even try Safe mode again, which still does not let TB run.
I have already tried uninstalling TB and installing the latest version.
What happens if you start the computer in safe mode.
FYI: Several people have been having issues after the latest Win10 upgrade.
The problem is on a Win8 machine. We got my wife a new Win10 CPU and I was trying to transfer her mail and contacts to the new machine.
Starting Win8 or Win10 in Safe mode does let me run TB. So I was able to export contacts, etc on the Win8 CPU. In Safe mode on the Win10 CPU, I can get contacts loaded and all the mail that had arrived on the Win8 CPU is there. BUT!!! In Safe mode, Wifi is disabled so new mail can't be read. And if I restart the Win10 CPU in normal mode with Wifi, then TB just runs for a second, never showing the usual windows, then it quits. With Task Manager, I see TB remaining as a background process. Loading the latest version of TB does not help.
There is safe mode with networking.
When I used option 5 (safe w networking) TB claimed that there was no connection - which is by WiFi, not a cable.
In any case, if I force TB to use the default profile generated at install time, TB will work in normal WIN10 mode; but of course this looses all the archived mail. So there is something sick with the profile folder I transferred from the old CPU. Any ideas on what to look for in the profile folder that seems to cause the problem?
Try disabling hardware acceleration, when you have started TB/Windows in Safe mode. Go to Tools > Options > Advanced > General and uncheck "Use hardware acceleration when available"
