Is it possible to migrate or merge an email profile from Thunderbird 3.1 running on Windows XP Pro to a newer computer running Thunderbird 91.9 on Windows 10 Pro? I am very confused with the information I can find online by just doing a google search. It seems unnecessarily complicated.

Thanks Larry

It's possible and righfully complicated since it involves a multitude of steps. First, you have to update the version of Thunderbird on the XP machine from 3.1 to a higher version (52.9.1). This is done in incremental jumps through each version that saw a significant change in Thunderbird's profile, instead of a one-step jump from 3.1 to the latest. With each intermediate jump, your 3.1 profile gets upgraded as well. This is covered here https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1310757

Bring it up to 52.9.1 on the XP machine first.
