I only have the old places.sqlite file and i try to copy it to a new profile to get my bookmarks back but it doesn't work. I delete new profiles places file and paste the old places file and rename it places.sqlite. Then i open firefox and it doesn't restore them it creates a new places and changes the one I copied in, to places.sqlite.corrupt. Then i tried deleting the .corrupt from it and deleting the new places that was created but when i open firefox again it does the same thing. It creates a new places and make the one i just change to corrupt again. I tried to use the places maintenance extension but it doesn't work on this firefox version. I have went through lot of the forums and could not find a solution that works. Why isn't it working? How do i get my bookmarks back? i have no backup html or json file just the .places file. Also i tired creating another profile made some bookmarks then i tried to copy the places file to a different profile and it still didn't work.Even though i just made the book mars in another profile. I have tried everything. Also i did an integrity check but every time i open firefox it creats a new places file so they come back fine. Please help.

Soluzione scelta

Maybe the other places.sqlite file is too old, meaning, the code that Firefox used to contain to up-convert that version of the file to a new format was removed at some point, so the current program can't do it.

Regarding the bookmarkbackup files, restoring one of those would completely replace your current set. If you need to merge a number of different backups, use the following tool to convert them to HTML format files:

The Import feature, unlike the Restore feature, is additive. You should get a folder or two of Imported Bookmarks and you can use the Library window to re-organize.

Hi warrefresh, if Firefox keeps renaming the old places.sqlite to places.sqlite.corrupt then there is a problem with Firefox using the file.

Where is the file from? Do you think there might be a problem with Windows permissions? You could right-click the file, click Properties, then Security and see whether you have full permissions to the file. Sometimes files copied from a different Windows user profile need you to "take ownership" (I don't remember how that works on Windows 10).

Wherever you got the places.sqlite file from, in that same profile, do you have any files in the bookmarkbackups folder?

Hey again you helped me last time. Ok i didn't think about this but I just tried copying another places.sqlite file from a recent profile and it worked. I guess it's because the places.sqlite file I tried to use is from an older version of firefox. Where is the file from? An old version of firefox. Do you think there might be a problem with Windows permissions? I just checked and I have full control over everything. Wherever you got the places.sqlite file from, in that same profile, do you have any files in the bookmarkbackups folder? yes

Oh wow i just found the folder with the bookmarks i thought i lost in 2016 :D

Ok but why doesn't copying the places file restore the bookmarks from that old places. Because the reason i wanted to copy the places files is to merge them all into one after having them in new profile i'd copy them into a folder then id copy a different places and copy those bookmarks too. but that doesn't work with some of my places files. because it keeps corrupting it.
