Are you using a multi monitor setup?

If you do then see if it works on the first monitor.

Can you open a new window via the File menu?

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Hello cor-el,

Thank you for your reply. Firefox 8 will not open a new window using the Menu Bar > File > New Window either. Also tried in Safe Mode with the same lack of results.

Very strange and I can't possibly be the only Mac 10.6.8 Snow Leopard Firefox (4.o or higher user) with this situation!! Not sure what else to try, but certainly open to any other suggestions.

Thank YOU!

Hello cor-el,

Yes, I do use a 2 monitor set up. And Yes!!! moving the Firefox window to the main or 1st monitor allows use of command n shortcut to open a new window. You're a genius. Thank you soo much!

Naturally, the reason I use a 2 monitor set up is to have Firefox open on the 2nd monitor for quick reference and easy access. Is there a workaround that will allow me to keep this configuration? (I know, I'm getting greedy now!)

Many Thanks, stevep50
