Hey, i have the same issue and searching for solution on forums since two days, Reset button done but pause remain greyed out. Why there are no solutions. Somebody from Mozilla needs to anser this immediately.

I use FF 26 for Ubuntu.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

I tried firefox in safe mode

The pause feature itself is missing or inactive even in safe mode

• I can pause text downloads like CBR, CBZ, ZIP, RAR, PDF.
• I cannot pause MP4, MP3, FLV, AVI, WEbm, SWF, 3Gpp, or html.

• I tried Firefox in safe mode, download area still grayed out for all media downloads.
• I have also tried going to about:downloads and I cannot pause media files there.
• I have tried pausing all of the media downloads with all of the different extensions that I have, but to no avail.
• I also tried the downloads window extension → https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/downloads-window/ and I cannot pause there either.

me too, that add on didnt help with pause though it did give me a nice new download window

I have the same exact problem. I cannot pause downloads. none of these helped so I had no other choice but to redownload an older firefox version and now I am able to pause downloads again.

This issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.

i think i got the pause feature working in downloads.

I completely removed the other themes that were installed even though they were disabled, upon starting the browser in safe mode i am able to use pause now

Have to check if the themes were causing the problem

i followed the steps provided up and it did worked, so ive disabled and unistalled all addons and themes, ive restarted and started installing 1 by 1 thi is what ive installed:

and they dont take my pause button out, and now it works fine, but when i installed:

problem appeared, i love that addon anyways, so ive tryed again in other order and the same happened to me but this time with monkey script, so dont point to any specific addon, is just a weird problem, anoying one, but it can be solved in 20 minutes

Did you try not to enable or install the Video DownloadHelper extension as this extension has been mentioned in cases when this issue is happening?

Why is Pause option in my active download greyed out? Nothing happens when I click Pause button

I think the problem is with Firefox 26.0 and above. I had to go back to version 25.0.1 to be able to pause downloads again.

In my case, the problem was not caused by plugins or extensions, because I had the same extensions and plugins installed in 25.0.1 and 26.0( and 27.0) versions. Yet, I could only pause downloads in 25.0.1

If you really want to be able to pause downloads, I guess you'll have to go back to version 25.0.1, at least until the problem is fixed in the new Firefox version.

• BTW, the pause function is only greyed out when trying to pause a VIDEO download!

People should be aware, there is currently *no solution* to this. There are ways to *trade one problem for another*, but that's not a solution. You can downgrade to an earlier FF version, or remove addons - but that's not solving problems, it's just swapping them (because downgrading runs a risk of addons not working. If the addons still work , then yes, it's a solution.)

One solution or alternative is to use Download YouTube Videos as MP4 1.7.18 available here. When used with Download Them All, which is available here , I can now pause the downloads again.
