Why 'freezes'30secs when changing from one website to another?

Whilst signing out of say 'facebook' or 'twitter' or 'youtube' Firefox freezes for maybe 30 seconds, and is unresponsive to all keys. They is carries on as usual. This can happen every-time, or just once a day, but is becoming more frequent.
