Aborted profile creation and now have lost filter rules - Can they be recovered?
Was trying out the creation of a profile and took the abort path and found that my filter rules have disappeared. Since I have many many rules I would rather recover if possible than rebuild. I do find the new profile in the .ini file but do not find the corresponding directory in the Profiles directory. In the .default directory I find no obvious references to filters causing my hopes that they are stored elsewhere to rise. So where are they stored and might they be recoverable?

Please explain what you did in more detail.

Can't really add much detail - the profile creation process began to ask things I didn't know or wanted to deal with so I aborted it and then discovered that my message filter rules were gone. I did use the link you provided and found that "msgFilterRules.dat" file only exists in the Thunderbird > profiles > xxxxxxxxx.default > Mail > Local Folders on this Win10 machine and TB version 45.1.1. The contents are:
version="9" logging="yes"
- no rules even tho I have entered several. So my question remains, where are they stored? I found no "tmprules.dat" files in the profile.

My best guess is you're talking about the new account wizard. That's something entirely different than creating a profile.

There isn't much more to tell than what's mentioned in the article. May be you managed to erase stuff from your profile. But without any more details what you did (and why) everything is just speculation.
