Thanks I tried that but still got problems, but maybe not Firefox seems like a memory thing keyboard entries slowing to a crawl it seems to be a graphics thing but also broadband very sticky but speed monitor shows normal - b***** computers twin Zeon processors with a 1Gb graphics card running like an XT. no obvious nasties virus checks clear, no spyware, defragged, registry cleaned heats sinks & fans cleaned running out of options!!!!!
The default of the pref network.http.max-connections has been increased from 30 to 256 in Firefox 6+ versions.
Try to decrease the value of the pref network.http.max-connections from 256 to 30 as used in Firefox 3 versions.
If you (or an extension) made changes to other network.http prefs like enabling HTTP pipelining (network.http.pipelining) then reset those prefs via the right-click context menu.
Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
- Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Thank you for suggestions, for whatever reason everything has returned to normal initially clearing cache etc had no effect but today when switching on Firefox & emails are working normally. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, thanks again for advice. Keith
