i get an error message saying firefox is already running when i try to open it but firefox is not running it has become more frequent over the last week

When i try to open firefox the message firefox is already running on this computer comes up i have had this a few times in the past but it has become more frequent recently . I know that the app is not running . so the only cure is to reboot my computer then it is ok. 

 hoping someone can help

Probably a "hung" firefox.exe process.
