When I open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately: When you middle-click on a Web link (or hold down Ctrl while clicking with the left mouse button), the page will be opened in a new tab. That page will not be displayed and will load in a background tab. Check this option to load and display the page in a new foreground tab instead.

THIS doesn't work

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

MClickFocusTab {web link} While using mouse middle-click to open new tabs, with a short- time clicking to open new tabs in background, with a long-time clicking to open new tabs in foreground.

It opens a new tab- but it doesn't switch to it - like BEFORE i did the upgrade- when will I ever learn to NOT upgrade FF- something always goes awry........

Hi socal_nana, I tested this feature. I checked the box on the page, and with that setting, links I "middle click" are opened in a new tab AND the new tab is activated.

So this should still work for you in Firefox 45 unless there is a conflicting setting or conflicting add-on. Did you try the Safe Mode test?
