I have a couple of weird certificate issues with sites I know are safe that were just fine on another machine with a different OS. I'm on Windows 7. So I click on "Advanced" when I get the "Insecure Connection" error page, and it opens the "Add exception" dialog. So I click on Add exception and it pulls up the window to add an exception for that website. If I uncheck "permanently store this exception" it will allow me to go to the site temporarily, but I have to do this repeatedly. If I do NOT uncheck it, I can click on the "Confirm Security Exception" button all day long and it simply does not respond at all. I need to get to these sites without going through this rigamarole every damn time. I am NOT using Avast.

First, I just want to clarify: when Firefox cannot form a secure connection with a server, that is not an indication that a site is unsafe, it is an indication that the server failed to prove to Firefox's requirements that it actually is the site you want to reach. It could be a fake, or it could have obsolete security which Firefox considers insecure. You should never need to make exceptions for well run sites.

Could you copy/paste the explanation of the error from that Advanced section of the error page? Maybe that will shed some light on why you can only make a temporary exception.
