I just installed Thunderbird because I wanted something easier than Gmail when it comes to bouncing occasional emails off my Amazon SES account. Inbound mail for my domain all gets dumped into a Gmail Account.

I had no problems creating a Hybrid of Receive via Gmail and Send via Amazon SES (Use StartTLS for auth, normal SSL/TLS wouldn't work for me). But before I could get into the settings and set that I only want the last 30 days downloaded from Gmail via IMAP, it went crazy and downloaded headers for thousand of emails, some going back 15 years.

I can't find any way to simply purge the local copy of the Inbox while NOT deleting anything from the Gmail account. I tried Account Settings / Sync & Storage / Synchronize the most recent 4 weeks. I tried Options / General / Disk Space / Clear Now

How do I just clear ALL local cache and then let it pull down the lat 30 days with my new Account Settings?

Hi Casper042, there are several ways to do this, but since being it an IMAP I would simply delete the account and start over again. When setting up ht new account, click the Advanced Config button instead of the Done button. This will take you to the new account's settings dialog so that you can make those changes you want before it starts fetching messages.

Be aware of the particularities of gmail accounts, suggest your read this Support Article Thunderbird and Gmail.

You could manually remove downloaded email, and should you wish so (but see above Support Article) you will find the location of your "Profile" (aka local folders) by clicking "Open Directory" in ->Menu, -Help -> Troubleshooting Information -> Profile Directory (probably in the ImapMail, the xxxxdefault-release folder). For instructions please refer to the heading "All Mail" in this mozillaZine Support Article Gmail

Please note that you will still see all your emails since Thunderbird downloads ALL headers, but only downloads those messages that you have set up to be downloaded in "Synchronization & Storage".

All the best from Stockholm.
