multiple tabs dont auto load until clicked

ok, i like to have many, many tabs open all the time. forever. but eventually i have to restart computer, and use "restore previous session", Now, i dont want every tab to load, (50 youtube videos playing at the same time), so its easier to physically turn off Internet, then have every tab crash, then turn internet back on and just refresh whatever tab i want to see.

this used to work fine on old firefox, but now when i use restore previous session all the tabs dont load. i have to click on each one, and then they hang continuously loading until i hit "stop", "refresh". next tab stop refresh, next tab stop refresh, next tab stop refresh...

i hope this makes sense, i want my 100+ tabs to crash at startup when i unplug my ethernet cable.

Did you try to reload all tabs via the right-click context menu while disconnected from internet if that is what you mean?

Firefox may still load pages from the cache, but shouldn't be able to play videos.

This add-on may be helpful for you;

FYI: At least as of Firefox 28+, the location of the option moved to the Tabs tab. Basically:

Tools -> Options -> Tabs -> "Don't load tabs until selected"

As for the configuration settings (accessed by using "about:config"):

  • browser.sessionstore.restore_on_demand
    • True: Only load when the user clicks on the tab.
    • False: Load immediately. (check box NOT checked)
  • browser.sessionstore.restore_pinned_tabs_on_demandd
    • True: Only load when the user clicks on the tab.
    • False: Load immediately. (Check box NOT checked)
