Hi, the quick filter used to be quick few years ago. Just inputed part of recipient and par of header. Done :) I use it daly a lot. Filter huge quantities of messages.

Since 3.0 or so it is really slow. It looks like it searches much more in deep. It is really shame, because I know it could worked better. Any chance to add some settings or make it quicker by default? Thunderbird is anyway the best! :)

Chosen solution

It was the quantity. I moved 80 % to a new folder. Searching in remaining 20 % was much quicker. Result in about 3-4 sec. It is a pitty, the old code worked better and was replaced. Filip

so ~28K messages? And you previously had ~140k messages in the folder? We did have a change to mime processing in version 38 which gave us a big performance hit in filters. This was addressed in bug 1089301 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1089301 But perhaps not enough? Version 38 released about this time last year. So would you say that your filter speed was OK in say early 2015??

I'm afraid this is the result of an architectural change to Thunderbird to use an interpreted Javascript module for core functions. See https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1055077 for details. Also see bug 1284753.

As of rev 45.2, it's still noticeably slower. I'm concerned that the old fast Thunderbird is gone forever.
